Eight people, including a one-year-old boy, were shot Monday evening during the shooting of a rap video in Oakland, California.
Initial reports said rapper Kafani was shooting the video outside a liquor store on Willow Street when gunshots erupted between a crowd of people who had gathered to watch the taping of the music video; however, Kafani later told reporters that he was not at the scene at the time of the shooting. He said his cousin, Hiram Lawrence, who is an up-and-coming rapper, was the one shooting the video.
It was Lawrence’s infant son who was son in the head.
Kafani told reporters that Lawrence was holding his son in his arms when someone in the group started shooting. He said a bullet went through his cousin’s hand and into the boy’s head.
The boy went through surgery Monday night at Children’s Hospital to relieve swelling in the brain. As of press time he was in a coma.
The condition of the other victims are unknown.
Oakland police said they are not getting a lot of cooperation from witnesses.
