In 1998, Mark Hourigan was charged with sexually abusing an eleven-year-old boy. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, served time in prison and agreed not to serve as a leader in any church where he would have contact with children.
Eleven years later, Hourigan says he is a changed man and next Sunday, he is being ordained as the pastor of the City of Refuge Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
“If we show people that someone with Mark’s background, with Mark’s past can become someone productive in society, then who else could reach out to other people but Christ’s people,” said Randy Meadows, the pastor who will ordain Hourigan.
Not everyone at the church was as welcoming as Meadows. Former church deacon Kevin Pickerrell said Hourigan was never open about his past until he was confronted.
The deacon said when he confronted Hourigan the pedophile was shocked and said, ‘Oh, you found out!’”
Pickerrell fears Hourigan will be tempted by the children who gather at the church for weekly Sunday school.
He said maybe Hourigan falls into the low percentage of sex offenders who are not repeaters, “but I don’t want to take that chance,” he said.
Pastor Meadows said Hourigan would sign an agreement not to minister the children.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAs the Head of the Utaziah Faith, I think it is disgusting that this man has been allowed to become an ordained minister especially since he will have access to children even if they say he won’t.
Is the church so desperate for followers that it accepts this type of man who has committed the Ultimate Crime both Socially and Spiritually to be a spokes person for God or Goddess depending on what you believe.
My faith will never accept or forgive people who sexually molest children, it is one of the most unforgiveable actions that a human being can do.
He knew it was wrong but still committed the crime against an innocent child and broke the most Sacred Law of Life, abusing a Child in the most wickedest way possible.
For the record I would like to add that the Utaziah Faith will never accept Child Abusers, Rapist or people who Murder with intent, as these are 3 of the 5 unforgivebale laws of my faith and I am not so desperate that I need to accept that type of human being into the faith, let alone become an advocate for it and God/Goddess.
What sort of message is this sending out into the world, that Jesus or God will forgive all your nasty little actions as long as you believe the teachings in the book of that faith.
I imagine Jesus is absolutely ashamed that this type of person is in a position where he speaks on his behalf, how can a man who has broken the most sacred of laws universally speak on behalf of god and jesus.
To say he will not go near the children, can they be sure especially as he has been made the minister of music, is it the case that the children will not be involved in anything musical in that church.. I very much doubt it and this will lead to opportunity.
He promised not to work in a church, but has broken this promise, he was obviously embarrassed about his past, as he chose to be elusive with regards to his conviction, so why now do they think he will keep his promise and not touch a child which fits his agenda and taste.. they cannot guarantee this, noone can.
It seems that no other Head of a Faith has past comment on this, I maybe wrong but have not come across anyone else speaking out, this is also unacceptable, I know the catholic church has had it fair share of child abusers, but shouldn’t the pope have expressed an opinion on this, as he is very quick to condemn the use of condoms, abortion and homosexuality or is it because he fears the finger being pointed at his faith once more, so best to bury his head in the sand and stay silent.
As a minister and messenger of God and Goddess I will not stay silent on this matter as it goes against everthing I know God/Goddess does not approve of or forgive and his soul will be weighed when his time comes and he will be down graded in the next life, that is a fact.
By staying silent it makes those who chose not to speak who are heads of the world faiths as bad as the man who committed this dispictable crime against an innocent child.
Silence is not golden when it effects peoples lives and endangers them in the future.
It is about time this world’s religious leaders got a grip on reality and started dealing with the spiritual issues which are inflicting this world, all the wars are over faith, power and control, why don’t the heads of these warring faiths stand up and tell their followers No More Murder, No More Rape, No More Abuse as it is not Gods’ war but theirs or are they afraid of the public backlash to speaking the truth or have they become so used to speaking lies and false truths that they have no comprehension of what it is to be a Spiritual Leader anymore and the responsibilities which go along with kind of position in a faith.
Again silence, how long will it take for these people to finally do something instead of wondering where the next big cheque is coming from, Do You Jobs I Say, stop being so vain that you fear ridicule for standing up for what is right and defending those who are wronged or may be wronged against.
This man will re-offend of that you can be sure, all it will take it for a child which appeals to his nature to come along and then we will be reading about the next victim of child abuse.
Child Abuse, Rape and Murder with Intent has to stop as No Forgiveness is given, or can or will be given, stop fooling yourselves by believing this, stop selling them a lie, as the truth of the matter is this, No Saviour or Prophet of any faith can offer you forgiveness for these crimes, you will be judged when your day comes and you will be sentenced and dealt with by the universal hierarchy of life, of that you can be sure.
Stop Living the Lie and Wake Up People before another poor soul has to suffer because this world’s inhabitants did not stand up united and say “We No Longer Accept this kind of Behaviour, We want a world where we are all safe and where we can live and enjoy of lives in Peace”
Enough is Enough, be the ones to make future generations proud of their ancestors or shall the future generations which will also be ourselves reborn be:
The Beneficiaries of a Paradise or The Victims of the Seeds this Generation has allowed to be sown – The choice is ours, let’s hope we make the right choice for all our sakes

I would be willing to wager that there are incidents in your past that you would be ashamed and horrified to find plastered across the internet. I think in a lot of the churches you people are only in it for child molestations anyway pervs! And you must be one of them to encourage this. That man should not ever be aloud around any children EVER anywhere again!! I don’t care what his profession is. A child is defenseless and that man knows this, that’s why they are his prey. Fine forgive but DO NOT give him the opportunity to do it again and again and in a church the children don’t usually tell now do they? It’s all hush hush so it can go on and on and on and on with no consequences!!!
