An 83-year-old Massachusetts woman was killed inside her home after an SUV careened through her front door.

Reports say last Thursday night, neighbor John Pappas had just rang Rosemary Turner’s doorbell to check in on her, when he saw a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, flew over an island then four lanes of traffic.

The 53-year-old man said while he was standing at Turner’s front door he saw the vehicle coming towards him so he ran out of its path.

Turner, who had just gotten up to answer the door, was struck by the vehicle. She remained pinned under the SUV for 45 minutes until emergency technicians were able to remove her.

She was taken to UMass Medical Center, where she later died.

The driver of the vehicle, Hari Dhakal, told police that his brakes failed while he was driving.

“There was something wrong with the break,” the married father-of-two later told police.  “I jammed the break but the car didn’t stop.”

Although police believe speed played a role in the accident, they have not filed charges against Dhakal.
