In an Omaha, Nebraska, courtroom today, a three-judge panel agreed with a jury’s decision that Roy Ellis should be sentenced to death for murdering 12-year-old Amber Harris.
In November 2005, Ellis abducted the little girl as she got off her school bus, sexually assaulted her, and then killed her.
The case received national attention when it appeared on “America’s Most Wanted.”
In May 2006, her remains were found after police received a tip about a dead body in Hummel Park.
Shortly after the girl’s body was discovered, police interview Ellis, who had just violated a protection order against his girlfriend.
Ellis, who is a level 3 sex offender, was charged with making terroristic threats, first degree false imprisonment and domestic abuse charges.
Ellis’ girlfriend told police that he had taken her from her home, and threatened to slice her throat and cut off her head, before driving her back to her home.
Authorities took DNA evidence from Ellis and link it to Harris’ and it was a match.
