A mentally ill Chicago man was sentenced to 100 years prison for downing his eight-year-old daughter in a toilet.
Neil Lofquist, a diagnosed schizophrenic, pleaded guilty to choking his daughter, then drowning her in the toilet before stabbing her in the neck in March 2006.
Defense attorney Jeffrey York said that his client is currently taking his medication and understood the court proceedings.
THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION FOR MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE WHO DO NOT OR CANNOT TAKE THEIR MEDICATION ON A DAILY BASIS.
SOMEONE WHO IS VERY CLOSE TO ME IS MENTALLY DISTURBED AND EITHER REFUSES TO TAKE HER MEDICATION OR CANNOT REMEMBER TO TAKE IT. WHEN SHE IS MANIAC SHE ACCUSED PEOPLE, IN PARTICULAR HER EX-HUSBAND OF ABUSING HER, AND I AM AFRAID THAT ONE DAY SHE WILL HURT HERSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE OF HER DELUSIONS.
THIS KIND OF TRAGEDY DOES NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN.
