Scuffle With Police Ends In Death For Man Trying To Swallow Drugs

A dashboard camera of a Louisiana police officer’s cruiser caught the video below of a scuffle between an officer and a suspect.

In the video, which was taped on July 5, you will see the officer asking the suspect to open his hand several times and the suspect refusing

The unnamed suspect then put something (the officer said it was a small bag with white powder) in his mouth. You will hear the officer screaming several times “spit it out, spit it out.”

The officer tried to get the bag from the suspect’s mouth, after a struggle, the suspect dies. Some say from a broken neck, police said the suspect suffered a fractured hyoid, but the coroner is expected to say that the cause of death was, “basically… his heart condition with the methamphetamine that was found in his system, also…if your hyloid bone is fractured that doesn’t kill you.”

 Chief Deputy Ard said the suspect died from “a fractured hyoid bone, which is a small bone in your throat.” 

In the video, you will hear an officer asking another, “Is he breathing?  And another saying, “I don’t know.”
