In case you have not heard, Senator Lieberman will continue to chair Homeland Security Committee.  In a vote of 42-13, Democrats voted during their caucus this morning to keep the Independent Senator in his position as chair for Homeland Security, but they took away his post on the Environmental and Public works panel.

As I mentioned in my November 8th posting, Democrats are to take some of the blame for voting the one time Democrat into such a powerful position, knowing he was not loyal to the party. Therefore, I think the Democrats decision this morning to keep the Senator on Homeland Security but take away Environmental and Public works was a very good compromise.

Majority leader Harry Reid, who has been pushing his fellow Democrats to remove Senator Lieberman from Homeland Security position, softened his tune this morning.  He said, “This is not the time for retribution, it was the time for moving forward on the problems of our country.”

This morning after the vote, Senator Lieberman said, “This is the beginning of a new chapter, and I know that my colleagues in the Senate Democratic caucus were moved.  Not only by the words that Senator Reid said about my long time record, but by the appeal of President-elect Obama himself, that the nation now unite to confront our very serious problem.”

Senator Lieberman, although you were given the opportunity to continue to chair Homeland Security, not everyone is going to forget how you campaigned with Senator McCain against President-elect Barack Obama during this year’s election.  You disrespected the party and President-elect Barack Obama when you spoke at the GOP convention.  You said this morning, “There were some statements that I made I wish I had not…..and now it’s time to move on.”  Yes Senator, we will move on, but we will not forget.
