I have received several emails asking me why I haven’t given an update on Senator Stevens trial. Well, I don’t think there is much to say, what happened was not a big deal; I believe it was legitimate human error.
I would advise anyone with interest in this case to get his or her information from a very reliable news media, like the Associated Press. According to the Associated Press, the government turned over documents to Senator Stevens’ attorneys on Sept.17th, which states, former CEO of VECO Bill Allen told the government that he believed Senator Stevens would have paid for the renovations if he had received the invoices. The only FBI report that the government legitimately forgot to turnover was Mr. Allen’s statement that he believed that the Senator would have paid for the architect if he had received an invoice for him. People, what difference does it make, the defense already had similar statement about the invoices. Plus, Mr. Allen was still on the stand when this information became known, and Stevens’ lawyers have not begun their cross-examination.
I also believe that Judge Sullivan was trying to make a name for himself by asking the lead prosecutor Brenda Morris four times to name the prosecutor on her team who forgot to turn over the document. Like the consummate professional, Ms. Morris told the Judge that they are team and she was not going to give up a member on her team. I totally agree with Ms.Morris for not naming the lawyer on her team who made the error.
Look people, the bottom line is, Senator Stevens broke the law now he is hoping to get off on a technicality. They were hoping to have the case dismissed but Judge Summit didn’t go for it. Case will resume Monday morning.
