A rush hour shooting in Manhattan ended with one man dead and a police officer wounded.
A 52-year-old Queens man suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s 21-year-old daughter on Monday was shot and killed by an officer in a crowded Harlem subway station.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Avenue and West 145th Street station.
Reports say police searching for wanted suspect Michael McBride traced his cell phone to an apartment on 145th Street in Harlem.
A team of five NYPD felony squad detectives from Queens spotted the suspect driving a silver Kia minivan in the area and when they tried to pull him over, he accelerated up West 145th Street and turned into oncoming traffic on St. Nicholas.
McBride then abandoned his vehicle in the middle of traffic and ran down the St. Nicholas subway station with officers closely following.
Once in the station, McBride pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Officer Kevin Herlihy, a 21 year veteran in the shoulder. The wounded officer fired back hitting McBride in the chest.
McBride was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Herlihy, 47, was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said McBride shot Shante Plowden in the head around 1:30 p.m. Monday inside her apartment on Beach 100th Street in Far Rockaway.
As of press time Plowden was listed in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
