“Soul Train” creator and host Don Cornelius is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
Seventy-five year old Cornelius was found in his Sherman Oaks, California, home around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head
He was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he expired shortly before 5:00 a.m.
It’s been reported that Cornelius had been battling many health problems.
The Chicago-born Cornelius hosted “Soul Train” from its television debut on August 17, 1970, until 1993.
In a rare interview with Time Out Chicago last year, Cornelius said that he created “Soul Train” as a way of giving “black talent an opportunity to get national television exposure.”
The dance show featured legendary stars like Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and Dianna Ross.
After Cornelius left, the show continued for another 14 years with different hosts.
Re-runs of the show can still be seen on television today.
I wish you Love, Peace and Souullllll!!
