Authorities in South Gate, California, identified the 18-year-old boy who stabbed his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend while she was eating lunch at South East High School in South Gate, California, as Abraham Lopez.

Witnesses told police that Lopez walked up to ex-girlfriend, Cindi Santana, while she was eating lunch in the school’s cafeteria and began choking her.

Several football players and a school administrator who witnessed the incident rushed to help Santana and according to the witnesses, Lopez pulled out a knife and stabbed them.

He then stabbed Santana, whom he had dated on and off since the ninth grade, in the side and back.

Santana was rushed to St. Francis Medical Center where she died during surgery.

The administration and a football player were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An incident between two students at South east High School in South Gate, California, ended with five people being rushed to a local hospital.

Authorities say a male student stabbed a female student and when a dean and two other students tried to intervene he stabbed them also.

Authorities say five people were taken to the hospital, one person with life-threatening injuries but they say which one.  The suspect was also treated at the hospital for unspecified injuries.

The school was put on lock-down during the incident.

The suspect is currently in police custody.
