Steven Powell: I had a sexual relationship with my missing daughter-in-law Susan

The father-in-law of a missing Utah woman, who disappeared over a year ago, said he had a sexual relationship with his son’s wife and was falling in love with her.

Steven Powell made the astonishing announcement on ABC’s Good Morning America earlier today.

“Susan was very, very sexual with me, very flirtatious,” Powell told the national morning show. “She would do a lot of things to me; we interacted in a lot of sexual ways.”

Powell appeared on the show with his son, Josh, who is named as a person of interest in Susan’s disappearance.

Susan Powell was last seen on December 6, 2009.  She was reported missing by co-workers after she failed to show up to work.

Josh Powell told authorities when he left his home in the middle of a blizzard on December 6 to take his two boys, Charlie, 4, and Branden, 2, camping, his 28-year-old wife was still alive.

Although many suspect he knows what happened to his wife, Josh Powell maintained his innocence saying he believes his wife, whom he called a very sexual person, ran off with another man.

“Everyone who knows me knows that I would never hurt her and I would never hurt my boys.  I would never hurt anyone,” Josh Powell said.  “I am a good dad and I was a good husband.  Though Susan was never faithful before that I know of, she was a very sexual person.”

The junior Powell said his wife was also unbalanced and had once threatened to commit suicide.  He said before she disappeared, she would leave the house in her underwear and walk down the street.

Susan Powell’s father, Chuck Cox, said his daughter told the family that Steven Powell had made advances towards her, which she said made her very uncomfortable.  Cox said his daughter had mentioned the advances to her husband but he did not seem to care.

The senior Powell said: “I think it is pretty likely I was falling in love with her, and there is no doubt in my mind that the feeling was mutual.  There was really a disconnect between the Susan who was a faithful, loving wife, and the Susan who was a very flirtatious, sexual being.”
