A 21-year-old New York woman was killed early Tuesday morning when the vehicle she was traveling in collided with a police cruiser during Hurricane Sandy.
Vishwaja Muppa was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in Port Jefferson, Long Island.
Muppa, who was a student at Stony Brook University, was a backseat passenger in a SUV that collided with a police cruiser driven by Suffolk County Officer Rene Garcia.
Officer Garcia was treated at a local hospital then released.
The condition of the driver of the SUV and the front seat passenger were not immediately available.
The accident is being blamed on Hurricane Sandy.
