An undergraduate student from the University College London collapsed and died from suspected alcohol poisoning during a freshman’s event. It is believed the 19-year-old student suffered a heart attack during the Freshers’ Fiesta party at Koko in Camden, London, early Monday morning.

The event, which was the first of a series of parties organized by university students’ union for freshmen, was called: Night Of Mayhem. The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life.

The student, who has not yet been named, was taken to University College Hospital, where he later died.

Police are investigating the death, but are not treating it as suspicious.

In light of the incident, two parties, including an ‘all you can drink’ night, have been cancelled.

UCL and its students’ union said in a joint statement: ‘The UCL community was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the death of a UCL undergraduate who was about to begin his degree here.

‘Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time. The student concerned collapsed at an event for new students at a local nightclub in the early hours of this morning.

‘He was assisted by event staff and taken by ambulance to University College Hospital, where he later died.’

The union cancelled the Vodpop Skool Disco at Pacha nightclub in Victoria, another event marking the start of freshers’ fortnight at UCL.

Den & Centro, a bar near Tottenham Court Road, scrapped its ‘all you can drink’ student night following police advice.
