According to authorities, Syracuse University senior, John C. Morse, committed suicide on Friday morning by jumping off a parking garage near the Veterans Administration Medical Center complex, a building that is owned by the school.

Officials at the university said that the senior was not schedule to graduate with his class on Sunday because he had not completed all of his requirements.

Sgt. Tom Connellan with the Syracuse police said the well-liked Information Management and Technology major student from Beverly, Massachusetts, was not a person that anyone would think would commit suicide.

“A lot of time when you’re looking at kids and you’re saying, ‘who’s at risk? Who is in trouble?’ Morse didn’t have any of those signs.  Maybe we will never know what was bothering him or what caused it, but he was really a good kid.  He really was.”

Approximately 80 students, faculty and staff gathered at SU’s Alibrandi Catholic Center for about 45 minutes on Friday to share remembrances of Morse, who was known as Jack to his friends.

Father Linus DeSantis said Morse attended Sunday mass every week and was a regular for Thursday night dinners held at the center, and he always stayed behind to help clean up the dishes.

Father DeSantis said Morse, who traveled at least twice to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina with groups form SU Catholic center, “was a person who always did what you asked him to do.”
