Postal worker Tammy Rochester claims that a Greenville County, South Carolina, post office fired her because she went to visit her fiancé after receiving word that he had been shot.

According to Rochester, her fiancé David Dill, had witness a dye-pack exploded after some robbers had robbed The Bank of Travelers bank on December 10.

Dill decided to follow the suspects after calling authorities to notify them of the robbery.

Authorities said that after the robbers noticed they were being followed by Dill, the driver fired several shots at Dill’s car hitting him in his wrist and neck.

Ms. Rochester claims that after receiving word about her fiancé, she called her shift manager and explained what had happened, then left her locked mail truck and keys with a plain-clothes deputy and went to the hospital.

Not knowing if her fiancé would survive, Rochester filed paperwork requesting an emergency leave of absence, but the post office denied it.

Rochester received a letter last week stating her position with the postal service will be terminated within 30 days of receipt of the letter, for failing to properly perform her duties and being absent without a leave.

She claims that she had 66 hours of leave time that was due to her.
