Authorities at a California high school subdued a former student who entered the building on Monday morning wearing a nylon vest packed with 10 homemade pipe bombs, a chainsaw and a two-foot-long sword.
The incident happened around 11:00 a.m. E/T at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo.
Authorities said the unnamed 17-year-old suspect detonated two bombs in a hallway near the library causing school officials to evacuate 1,200 students and faculty.
Lt. Mike Brunicardi told reports “the suspect was quickly wrestled down by a teacher who, with the help of the principal and another teacher, was able to hold him down until police arrived minutes later.”
Parents were sent automated calls to appraise them of the situation and where to pick up their children.
Authorities said residents were sent a message through the police department to stay indoors while the school was searched for any additional bombs.
