DAVIES SAYS IS NOW SAYING THAT SHE DID NOT BITE COGHILL’S TONGUE OFF, SHE SAID SHE WAS NOT EVEN IN THE ROOM WITH HIM WHEN IT HAPPENED. SHE CALLED COGHILL A LIAR.
40-year-old Tracy Davies is on trial for biting off a third of her boyfriend’s tongue while she was kissing him.
Today in Newcastle Crown Court, in the UK, a jury heard how Davies bit off Mark Coghill’s tongue.
According to the prosecutor in the case, Davis was upset with Coghill because she was not pregnant. On the night of October 10, 2008 the couple were celebrating Coghill’s 45th birthday.
They went to a local supermarket to buy two bottles of vodka and food to celebrate the evening, and then later, went to a bar to do some more celebrating.
After a night of heavy drinking, the couple returned to Coghill’s home. Davies became upset, and while Coghill was trying to comfort her, she asked him for a kiss.
While they were kissing, Davies grabbed his tongue with her teeth and bit into it very hard, and a third of it came off in her mouth.
“She had the piece of tongue in her mouth, he saw her take it from her mouth, and it fell to the floor,” prosecutor Julian Smith told the court.
Coghill, who is no longer able to work as a customer service rep, told the court, “I will never enjoy a curry again; I can’t distinguish between certain foods, like the difference between cheese and toast, and just toast.”
“I can’t use my tongue for eating. Those are the things you take for granted. Speech wise, I am doing very well, but I will never be able to talk fluently again. My tongue still hurts today,” he continued.
Coghill said it is very difficult for him to understand why his girlfriend of a few months did what she did.
“She was not good looking, she was no model, but neither am I,” he said. “She seemed very genuine. It was important to me to meet someone that was genuine and nice, because my marriage had broken up. She was a nice and beautiful and lovely woman, and in a few seconds she had turned into a psychopath.”
Davies called 911 and EMS alerted the police.
When the police arrived, she told them, “We have had a domestic; I have bitten his tongue off. Here it is,” and she handed them the piece of tongue that she had put in a bag.
When the police arrested Davies, she was completely shocked and said, “YOU ARE JOKING, RIGH?”
Coghill was treated at Newcastle General Hospital, but surgeons decided not the re-attach the tongue because of the danger of an infection.
