New Jersey authorities are saying very little as to why FBI agents and local police raided Trenton Mayor Tony Mack’s home early this morning.
Trenton police Lt. Don Fillinger said police were called to the mayor’s home on Berkeley Avenue around 1:00 a.m. to assist FBI with a “search operation.”
Neighbors said around 6:00 a.m., agents were seen leaving Mack’s home with two boxes. They said large equipments were also taken from the mayor’s SUV.
Since being sworn into office in 2010, Mack has come under criticism for how he is running the city.
Last year, thousands of Trenton residents tried and failed to have him removed from office on grounds that he was leading the city in the wrong direction.
In 2010, the Democrat was accused of reckless spending and nepotism and under an agreement reached last year, Mack is now only allowed to hire department heads from a pool of applicants the state offers or he will risk losing $6million in state aid.
Reports say Mack was at home with his family during the early morning raid.
