Trial began today for seventeen-year-old Daniel Petric who is accused of killing his mother and shooting his father in the head because his parents took away his Halo 3 video game.

According to prosecutors, Daniel was angry with his parents because they took away his video game that he had purchased without their permission.  On October 20, 2007, Daniel approached his parents and told them that he had a surprise for them but he wanted them to close their eyes.  When their eyes were closed, Daniel shot them both in the head.

Daniel fled the scene after shooting his parents, but before doing so, he tried to place the gun in his father’s hand to make it look like a murder suicide.

When the police caught up with him, he told them that his father had killed his mother then shot himself.  However, he later confessed to being the shooter.

Rev. Mark Petric, Daniel’s father said that he is supporting his son throughout the criminal process.

Daniel opted for a Common Pleas Judge to hear his case instead of a jury.

If convicted of the charges, Daniel could get life in prison without parole.
