(CNN) — Two people were killed when bad weather caused a ferry to tilt heavily toward one side early Sunday in the Philippines, authorities told CNN.

The ferry was heading from Mindanao in southern Philippines to Manila.

Two rescue ships reached the distressed SuperFerry 9 vessel, which had 964 people aboard, Coast Guard officials said.

Besides the two fatalities, all the other passengers were rescued, officials said.

It was the third major incident for SuperFerry 9 in the past three years. There were no fatalities in the other incidents, reported in 2006 and 2007.
