Two 14-year old boys, who were in the care of a group home in Edmonton, Canada, are accused of killing a man and a woman Sunday afternoon.
It is believed that while the boys were playing outside Bosco Homes, they walked away from the facility although staff members were outside supervising them.
“The kids were playing outside, and the staff was outside when the two kids were suddenly missing,” said Gus Rozycki, executive director of the home.
“Once staff understood that they were indeed missing, they reported it immediately to the RCMP, because it was part of the condition of their release,” Rozycki continued.
The grisly discovery of the bodies were discovered when Edmonton police investigating a traffic complaint of careless driving, found the two missing teenagers in a stolen pickup truck.
When authorities went to notify the owner of the truck about finding his vehicle, they found a dead man lying in a yard and a dead woman in a trailer on the same property.
Rachel Notley, a NDP member of the legislature told reporters that it was time to hold a public inquiry into Alberta’s Children’s Services Department.
“There is just too many tragedies coming out of this ministry and not enough solutions and not enough transparency and taking responsibility on the part the government,” Notley said. “We need to have group homes, but we need to have resources and when concerns are identified, we need to respond to them. We need to ensure that we have got proper levels of staffing and proper levels of training.”
One of the boys is facing two charges of first-degree murder and the other is facing two counts of being an accessory.
They are scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park provincial youth court today.
